QED uPlay Stream Network Music Streamer

qed uplay review

TL;DR:

QED uPlay Review. The uPlay network music streamer is a compact hidden simple hi-fi device that easily connects to your wired router and streams music over your home network and delivers it to your seperates system.

Review Preface:

QED are known for high fidelity, quality, and craftsmanship by scores of audiophiles and music lovers. Having recently announced the QED uPlay, a Hi-Fi network music streamer, this little piece of technology here has certainly got us talking at The Pro Audio Web Blog HQ.

Build Quality and Set-Up:

The uPlay comes as a standalone unit that attaches either wirelessly, or via Ethernet (provided), to your home wireless network. The uPlay then transmits audio from a computer tablet or phone to speakers attached to the uPlay. The uPlay comes with both high quality RCA’s and a 3.5mm jack connector which allows you to connect it to various audio setups.

The uPlay box itself is rather plain looking and manufactured from moulded plastic. It won’t win any design awards, but it is an extremely small and compact product that can easily be hidden.

Perhaps one of the down sides to the uPlay package is that the included ‘wall wart’ power supply has quite a short cable length. In turn this can sacrifice its placement near to your other Hi-Fi devices and can make you frustrated as you try to juggle it with other peripherals to make it fit.

When setting up the uPlay there are comprehensive instructions included that allow for a fast connection, and within minutes the uPlay will have you transmitting music all over your house.

uPlay Streaming Sound Quality and Usability:

The sound quality will largely depend on the source of your music. However there seems to be next to no loss in quality between devices when transmitted, thus allowing you to stream your favourite WAV’s, Flac and MP3’s alike to systems all over your abode!

The uPlay app, for iOS, android and PC/Mac is both coded and executed well with a simple GUI and sensitive controls. These applications are great for fast muting for when you get caught listening to your guilty pleasers! On both the App Store for iOS and Play store for Android, QED have crafted an excellent app that makes transmitting your music easy, and really does make you want to pick it up… and use it.

Review Conclusion:

For what could be seen as a novelty that would get a few uses and then forgotten about, the QED uPlay works so well that it will seamlessly integrate into your existing set up with ease and style. The uPlay isn’t a product that is great to look at, but with functionality and usability along with a fast and responsive app, the QED uPlay is awarded four stars!
